Honda Reveals 2020 Civic Type R at Tokyo Auto Salon
For many, the Honda Civic Type R is the gold standard when it comes to performance variants of everyday cars. While the 2020 Civic ha been available for a while, the Honda Civic Type R has been notoriously MIA. Performance variants usually take a little longer to be revealed, so that came as no surprise. But for those wanting to see how Honda improved the excellent 2019 Honda Civic Type R, the wait was excruciating.
Well, no longer. We have our answer to the question…
Is Honda making a 2020 Civic Type R?
2020 Honda Civic Type R Performance Specs
Honda has made a number of changes to the 2020 Honda Civic Type R, but it’ll still feature the beloved performance-focused 2.0L direct-injected, turbocharged four-cylinder engine with VTEC™ valvetrain. It puts out 306 horsepower and 296 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a close-ratio 6-speed manual with a limited-slip differential. There are still three different selectable drive modes: Comfort, Sport, and +R.
Refreshed 2020 Civic Type R Updates
As mentioned before, there’s some new improvements. The 2020 Honda Civic Type R will feature new two-piece brake rotors and new brake pads in order to reduce fade and improve high-speed braking efficiency. This pairs well with the tweaked dampers, stiffer bushings, and front suspensions modifications. The front grille has been enlarged to improve engine cooling. The Honda Sensing® safety suite is standard on the 2020 Honda Civic Type R. A new feature called Active Sound Control modifies interior sound to better compliment the selected drive mode.
